The $500 16GB, Wi-Fi only iPad costs Apple less than half that to build, according to a recent component breakdown from iSuppli.

Ever since the company’s inception in 1976, rumors of an Apple-manufactured tablet computer have dominated the tech world. Some came to fruition while others fizzled, but with Apple expected to announce their tablet this week, anticipation is at an all time high. Before we all get too crazy, first let’s see how we got here.
